Maternity sessions are amoung some of my favourites. It’s an opportunity for me to be the fine art photographer that I am. And this session was no different, the light, the styling, the flowers, it couldn’t have been anymore perfect.
Hidden away in the countryside is a very picturesque woodlands, surrounded by fields and flowers and all the things you think of when you imagine the Cotswolds. With the sun streaming through the trees, and the wind blowing the long grass, it was the perfect moment to capture the beauty of pregnancy.
The beautiful flower crown was handmade by a very talented friend of mine, Styled by Nina, who makes each headpiece filled with beauty and vintage charm. And against the golden light of the sun and the long, blonde waves of my beautiful mother-to-be, it was the perfect finishing touch.
Photography sessions can take place anywhere, from the studio to
your favourite hideaway, and even from the comfort of your own home. It’s
about the time spent, the memories made and the moments captured.
In the photography industry, it’s often ‘all for one… and all for one’ so the idea of moving into the wedding photography industry with little experience was a more than daunting task. However, with a little help from a very kind and patient local photographer, Potters Instinct Photography, who after a few introductions, offered me an assisting opportunity for a wedding he’d be photographing at Hyde Barn, Oxfordshire.
This would be my first wedding as a professional photographer, and it was such an eye opening experience for someone that hadn’t dealt with that industry before. Of course, being an assistant there wasn’t any pressure on myself to acheive, I was there to learn and gain experience that hopefully one day I’ll be able to draw from and develop.
Throughout the day I captured a few shots here and there, from the getting ready of the bride to the smaller details and flowers. And with each shot I was putting in practice what I’d seen and learnt, yet still ensuring my style of photography was present. The whole day was perfect, and a huge congratulations to the happy couple.
This newborn photography session was shot a few months ago, when this handsome little boy was only 12 days old. Still so peaceful and delicate, with his tiny hands and tiny toes. There’s nothing quite like photographing a newborn baby, the infamous smell of a new bundle of joy, the beautiful way they curl up and sleep so quietly and still, and of course being able to squeeze in a few cuddles between poses.
For this photography session I took a different approach, and was at the time just beginning my move into lifestyle photography, so the images portray a subtleness and purity, capturing a love that is only beginning.
Only a few weeks prior I had the privilege of capturing the mothers pregnancy in a beautiful maternity session, which you can view here, and being able to share and be apart of such a personal journey was a wonderful experience. And still to this day are among my favourite collection of images.
I hope to have captured a moment in Carter’s life that will be forever treasured and enjoyed. We know all too well that they don’t stay that size, or sleepy, for very long.
