My impatience often gets the better of my when I’m editing family photography sessions, and this session was one I couldn’t wait to download, edit, share and write all about. It couldn’t have been more perfect, the sun was shining brightly, and rather warmly, over Blenheim Palace, we had a birthday to celebrate and discovered a beautiful spot right by the lake to enjoy… even the ducks came to visit!

We venutred into the woods, walking and talking while I captured their wonderful little family. Minus a few grizzley moments, Annie was the perfect model, wanting to investigate anything and everything. She enjoyed snuggly cuddles with daddy and giggly moments with mummy, all topped off with plenty of lovely family moments.

It’s those moments that are a pleasure to capture, not only for me as a photographer, but for the family to keep and treasure for forever. Time flys by, children grow up in a blink of an eye, and if I can pause a moment of smiles, laughter and love and share that for each and every family to keep then I’m one happy photographer.

Family photography sessions can take place anywhere, from the studio to
your favourite place, and even from the comfort of your own home. It’s
about the time spent, the memories made and the moments captured.

There’s not many places that don’t come alive with a little bit of blue sky and sunshine, and Shotover Country Park, Oxford, was one of those places. With views across south oxfordshire, and woodlands pathed with buttercups, it was a perfect location for a Father’s Day family photography session.

To be captured at your most natural is something that is often requested by my clients, and it’s not always something I have a hand in. To be at your most comfortable is simple when you’re surrounded by your loved ones. And the same applied for this family photography session. I was peeking through trees and ducking under branches with the family merely enjoying a day in the sunshine. We left the nativation down to little Lucca, and he lead us through the long grass, jumping and running ahead at every opportunity. We were greeted by fellow ramblers, horses, puffed out dogs and plenty of trees perfect for climbing.

natural light photography | lifestyle photographer oxfordshire

Tucked away in the corner of my studio is a window of potential, and with the sunshine seeming to be sticking around I rolled up the blind and let the nautral light pour in. Off with the lighting, out with the reflector and hello to the early morning sunshine, deep shadows and bright eyes.

I’m a trained studio photographer, with all the gear, but there’s something about using natural light that overwhelms my creative mind. This year is a year of first, and I wasn’t going to let a few shadows hold me back from working with all this lovely light.

A family of three, with a little lady that wanted to be up, up and away. There was definitely no time to stand and stare with this family photography session, she’ll take the lead and I’ll follow, capturing every triumph and every fall.
